Our Christmas Trip to Zagreb: Part 4--Christmas Eve

We had so much fun at Room Escape on Rio's birthday and it is so much up our alley that Marika wanted to do the other scenario for her birthday.  Unfortunately, much like in Germany, the 26th is still considered "Christmas" in Croatia and Room Escape was closed (though, lots of places were open---Zagreb is not the ghost town from 2:00 on the 24th on through the 26th that Germany is).  So, we booked the "bunker" for early afternoon on Christmas Eve.  I spent the morning prepping our traditional Christmas Eve dinner of chicken enchiladas, we had some lunch at the house and then headed downtown and right to Room Escape.

This time we were tasked with breaking into a military bunker fast enough to stop the launch of a nuclear warhead, which was set by the suicidal Mr Pig, determined to take out most of the known world with himself.   We had another marvelous time and managed to finish with 16 minutes to spare having asked for only one clue.  We all agreed this one was a bit easier, plus we had experience now.  It was a heck of a lot of fun again--and if you are trying to decide between scenarios I can say that the bunker had more gadgets and classic soy movie feeling things to do, which made it exciting--though we all liked the bank best.  We definitely had a great time again and were happy we chose to make a return visit.  Honestly, had there been a third option we would have likely gone back yet again!

Our plan for the remainder of the afternoon and early evening was simply to wander the old town areas on foot and enjoy the Christmas lights, markets, etc.

We did wander a bit and really enjoyed it.  We also liked this little tent area for drinks (the mulled white wine that tastes much like a hot apple cider was fantastic!) and fresh donut holes served in cups (this treat was available in many places and very yummy).  We loved the atmosphere here, we dubbed it the "Christmas Oktobefest tent" because that is what it looked like (and felt like, only much less crowded).

That is a huge tree!

(which Marika just HAD to play in)

Shortly before dark we wandered over the Zagreb Eye, where for 20 kn each we took an elevator to the 16th floor lounge and could walk outside and enjoy some great views and then settle in at the bar to play board games and have a few drinks (drinks priced the same as anywhere else in town, no upcharge beyond the entrance fee--which works out to about 2:30€ each).

The timing was perfect as we got to start with city views in daylight:

Enjoy sunset:

share a kiss under the mistletoe:

have some drinks and relax with a game:

and then head outside again for views of the city lights:

It was a really lovely way to relay and enjoy Zagreb for a couple of hours before we headed back past the markets:

to the house where we had dinner and opened out Christmas gifts.

All in all a wonderful holiday.
