Second port day: Corfu, Greece

Our second port of the cruise was in Corfu, Greece.  I have been fascinated with this place ever since I read Gerald Durrell's hilarious memoir of moving there as a British ex-pat child in the 9th grade.  If you haven't read My Family and Other Animals yet, well, I would recommend treating yourself to a copy and the time to take it in.

The dock is about a 20 minute walk from the main town.  We elected to be lazy and take the local city bus into town.  It runs every 10 minutes, costs 1.70 euro each way and tickets can be bought right from the driver (who can make change).  It was clean, pleasant and not crowded at all and the pick up is just steps from the terminal (closer than the hop on hop off buses).  There is also an option to buy an all day ticket for 5 euro which is good on three different lines and would take you pretty much anywhere you'd want to visit on the island.

There was nothing in particular we wanted to see.  We simply wanted to explore an soak in the vibe of the place, which is exactly what we did.  Here are some photos--all taken on a pleasant 90 minute walk around town:

All in all we had a lovely and relaxing afternoon in this pretty little coastal area.
