A very 50s kind of day in Arvada

Hi everyone!  We are back in Germany, and mostly recovered from our jet lag.  I hope to catch up on posts in the next few days, and then be out and about doing more fun things over here to post about in a couple of weeks.  Dave and I will be attending Munich's Oktoberfest for the first time this fall, and there is a cruise on the horizon--so much to look forward to coming up.

Today I want to blog a little about the "unbirthday" day.  My sister in law had a great idea to have a party day for the 5 cousins, since they are never together on their real birthdays.  As it turned out, only 4 kids could get together on that day--but it was still a lot of fun.

We started the afternoon with a two hours skates session at Skate City in Arvada.  When we lived in Michigan, there was a roller skating rink nearby, and we loved going.  We have gone skating at this rink with my nieces and nephews on most of our Colorado trips.  All of us, of varying ages, enjoy skating on a nice smooth, surface with music, etc.  If you have a rink near you, I have to recommend an outing (they are especially nice on a day when the weather is not conducive to being out of doors).

The two hour skating session is just about perfect.  Enough time to have lots of fun, but not so long that you overdo it.

After our session was up, we had all worked up an appetite.  So, we kept with that fifties feel and headed back over to Jim's Burger Haven, a local diner, to fill up.

Jim's is a classic diner--not overdone an trying to be retro; it feels like it has probably been there for years and that is about how it has always looked.  The food was good and reasonably priced.  The "large" burgers are REALLY large!

After filling up we headed back to my sister in law's place for ice cream cake, unbirthday gifts (mailing things internationally gets tough!) and playing with the Wii Kinect (popped right back into this decade, didn't we!).

All in all a VERY nice day.
