The Ibis Budget in Reims, France

Last week and this coming week are school vacation weeks in Southern Germany; Pfingstferien.  We always have the week following Pentacost Sunday and the week containing Corpus Christi off in Baden Wurtemburg.  Last week we stayed home and Dave worked, but this week we were off to Disneyland Paris, where I was able to snag us a deal including free dining (perfect given that our impression 5 years ago was that food was by far the most expensive part of the trip--and Rio can really eat these days).

Our package includes park tickets for both our arrival and departure days--so we want to be able to get into the parks and explore a bit before hitting our hotel (a cabin at Davy Crockett Ranch) to relax; thus we have driven most of the way today and are staying at an inexpensive hotel here in Reims.  We booked two triple rooms (to have a bit more space than the double rooms that are all we really need) at the Ibis Budget for the bargain price of 43 Euro apiece.

I often find that Americans are STUNNED by how small the lower priced accommodations in Paris or other large French cities are--even if they have been told to expect minimal square footage.  So, I thought it would be fun to post some photos of our room, which is actually bigger than either Dave or I was expecting.

Here it is from the doorway:

The toilet is in a little stall right by the door, that is reminiscent of an airplane restroom:

The shower opens directly into the room, if you are not careful the door hits the bed as it swings open:

The sink is in the corner next to the window ( as far from the  toilet as the room allows).  See all that space between the edge of the bed and the outer wall?  We were surprised to have all this roominess.

The "closet"

It's small, but clean and comfortable and the owner/manager is super friendly.  There is also a nice bowling alley (with free wi fi and decent food and good music and no smoke) right next door, and my favourite bad French fast food chain (Quick) just beyond that.

All in all, a fine place for a night.  Next stop--Disneyland!
