Marseilles, Part Duex

We started the morning off with breakfast in the MDR, and Rio wanted to dine at Windjammer (the buffet).  Heading back to the cabin after breakfast, we found Rio in the hallway looking for us.   Something didn't "feel right" with his braces.  Sure enough, one of the wires had come lose in back and then the wire had pulled out between two brackets and made a cm or so loop of metal poking out past his teeth and into his mouth.  Ouch!

We headed strait away to the medical center to see if perhaps they could do anything with it.  They did not even look and just told us that they do nothing with teeth but would call a local dentist for us if we wanted.  Hmmm.  French dentist (none of speak french), taxis from the port out of town, etc, just did not sound pleasant.  We figured we could probably just cut the wire off and deal with it when we got home, so we called the orthodontist back in Germany and thankfully they were open and answered (many offices close for the school breaks) and YES they said to use any good sharp scissor, cut the wire out, and they would fix it when we got back, Rio already even had an appointment for our first week home so it was very simple).

Not having any scissors on us, we found that a pair of nail clippers, washed as best I could with soap and hot water and then sterilized with Listerine (lol) did the trick, and shortly Rio's mouth felt just fine.  We were glad the wire pulled lose while we were on the ship and that he didn't have to call and we did not have to rush back to the ship all worried from some port.

By then it was almost time for more trivia, so we stayed onboard for a bit longer (hint, if you are ever trying to find our family while on a cruise,a and there is going to be a trivia game, go there and you'll probably find us!).

Afterwards, Rio opted to remain onboard while the rest of us took off to hang out a bit in port.  Marika basically wanted to come along and do the exact same thing Dave and I had done the week before, but without the uncertainty of not knowing where the bus was headed.

The cathedral was still closed an under renovations (it looks like this will be a months long project):

We continued a little further this time, up and around the bend and along the shore line to see some nice views, and have a good look out towards the Notre Dame of Marseilles (but still decided not to take the bus over to tour her--one thing about living in Europe, you reach a saturation point with how many churches you want to tour.  We are a little jaded that way).  Here are some photos of the views of the harbor, the statue from in front of the museum (also closed for renovations at the moment), the little church across from it (also being renovate!) the harbor and Notre Dame:

After walking around for about 45 minutes, and taking scads of photos, we wandered back down to the bus stop area and sat at our same little cafe and had some wine (and Coke):

Not being a holiday (as the prior Monday had been), the market was in full swing at the plaza across the way.  So we meandered over there to check out all the various wares.  We actually ended up buying a razor for Rio (he forgot to pack his, and it was starting to really show!).  Marika also found a table full of ribbons.  We have a hard time finding grossgrain ribbons in Germany, and she likes to wear them in her hair, so we bought 5 or meters in different styles.

Back at the ship, we had just missed to buffet lunch, so we ordered room service and had a quiet meal on the balcony (just the one side though, that door between had not been opened in spite of our asking and guest services calling to have it done so we could get between the rooms somewhow):

As we were finishing up lunch, not one but TWO repairmen arrived.  One was working on the A/C.  After pulling some panels down and adjusting things, he said that everything IN the room was set as it should be and the issue must be on the line for this section, and they would work on it.  The other was a lock smith sent to re-key the locks.  He tried several times and showed us that when he reset them, the extra keys would work right up until you used a regular key, and then the extra keys no longer worked.  So, that would leave us with the same issues of one person nearly always locked out and not being bale to check on the kids.  Oh well.  By then we were used to Marika and I switching keys when we were not leaving the ship, and at least Marika was generally getting off with us this second loop around, so she was not ending up locked out of her room any time I needed my own key to leave the ship.

Marika and Dave hung out in the hot tub for a good chunk of the afternoon while Rio climbed the rock wall and I went to watch.  The we all met up at "Where in the World Am I" trivia (!) before getting dressed up for formal night, and our reservations at Chops.  We got a seat at the R bar and enjoyed our free, crummy champagne for the Captain's Gala (and they had virgin cocktails for the kids too), and truly enjoyed the band playing.

Dinner was pretty much the same as Chops the week before.  Very good.  In this case, we had pre booked a special online in which you book a dinner for 4 on the first night of the cruise and receive a $30 credit towards drinks that night.  If you are thinking "this wasn't the first night" you would be correct!  We asked once onboard if it was okay to dine another night, and the venue is so underutilized that they said that was fine.  So, we shifted it by a day.

The one minor glitch is that Chops had no record of our online booking (which we had to pre pay).  Dave pulled up the email on his iPHONE though (and they were VERY nice about it, and made it clear they trusted us and felt their system was at fault).  Even then, the email gave the name of the package ("celebration dining package" )but not the details of the $30 credit.  The manager let us know that he still had no info about that, and that while he has seen that package on other ships, he had never seen it offered for the Legend.  He  told us he had to get approval from the main offices before he could give us the discount so he would wait to charge us for the wine until he had done so, and then find us to sign the bill another day (which is exactly what happened--he brought the bill over to us at Izumi later in the week; it was easy-peasy for us).

After dinner, Dave and I saw the same production show as the week before--and found it was really fun for us when we felt we "knew" the cast.  The kids were already off and running doing something fun in Optix--not to be seen again until past midnight.

After the show we went up to the Viking Crown Lounge for some dancing and the special "Macho Men" show (think cruise staff guys do a mini Chip n Dales act)--which was fun and hopefully worked off some of our dinner.

Tomorrow--back in Barcelona.
